Your credit for Homework in this course comes from a
set of problems on the web site:
www.masteringphysics.com
This site is provided by the publisher of the textbook and
has a number of nice features including assistance in working
the problems. The instructions below tell you how to access
the web site.
You actually enter your work on the computer, so you will need to learn their system for that. The first assignment, Introduction to Mastering Physics, is there to guide you through using the system (there is no credit for this first assignment). As with any computer system, there will be a learning curve, so begin to use the system immediately.
To log on to MasteringPhysics, you will need the Course ID (given below), an access code, and your student ID.
Course ID: MPWELCH0004 (Those are three zeros before the 4.)
Students who purchased new text books should find their access code in the Student Access Kit that comes with the text. Students who purchased used texts may purchase an access code directly from the MasteringPhysics web site.
Students who have difficulties enrolling should contact Technical Support on the MasteringPhysics web site.
IMPORTANT: For your student ID, you must enter your TAMU UIN. Do not enter any other number. If you do not enter your UIN correctly, you will not get credit for your homework.
The assignments for each chapter will be available on the computer starting late during the week before we cover the material (Chapter 21 assignments are already available). The Mastering Physics web site will make it clear when these are due, but it will usually be around the middle of the week after we cover the material. On weeks with exams, the due date will be the night before the exam. There may also be short assignments due after each lecture.
The assignments will remain available after the due dates for study purposes, but you won't get credit for work done after the due date/time.
Important Advice:Keep in mind that the web site is mainly there for you to enter solutions for grade. Although some problems will guide you through the problem and attempt some degree of instruction, the computer is no substitute for the book and a pencil and paper. You need to take a large block of time and work out all the homework problems on your own. After that, you can use the web site to turn in your solutions. Keep in mind that it can be a bit tedious to enter the solutions, so you must allocate a significant amount of time for this. |
The list of homework problems is shown here.
Here is the handout that was given on the first day of class with this information.
