Notes about the Final Exam

This was supposed to be a very difficult final. It pushed all the major concepts, and had several problems which required you to combine what you knew. One of the problems, (5b and c) was challenging beyond what is usually expected. I did this on purpose, to see how many students could rise to the challenge!I had no expectation that any student would make a perfect score, and I have lowered the cutoff for an A to 80% because of this. Still, of the 77 students taking the final, 11 students exceeded this level. You are very outstanding bunch.

At the other end, many of the problems were very straightforward, so I didn't lower the requirements for C or D very far. I think expecting just over 50% for a C on this exam is quite reasonable.

So, the pattern that has emerged is a few students with high grades, a large number with middle Bs and Cs, and a few with lower grades.
