Notes about the Final Exam
This was supposed to be a very straightforward final.
As with the other exams, it was just the same material.
-
Problem 1 was similar in spirit to chapter 4,
exercise 6. Or look at chapter 4, problems 5 and 7 together.
-
Problem 2 was nothing new -- look at the problems and exercises
in chapter 7, and at quizzes 8 and 9.
-
Problem 3 was really a rehash of chapter 9 problem 6.
-
The only problem in the book like Problem 4 was chapter 9,
problem 1 or exercise 4. But if you look at quizzes 14, 15,
and 16 then it should be no surprise.
-
Problem 5 was the easiest 2-dimensional collision problem that
it is possible to design. Compare the equations to chapter 10
problem 3, or quiz 19, and you will see the final exam problem
is much easier.
-
Problem 6 was word-for-word identical with quiz 23. It was
also word-for-word identical with chapter 14, exercise 3.
-
Problem 7 was identical to chapter 15, problem 5.
-
Problem 8 was nearly identical to chapter 18 problem 6.
The only difference was that the rod was changed to a disk,
and the only effect of the change was that the moment of
inertia is different, and I gave you that!
Given the above, I have not made the curve any lower than
for the previous exams: 85%, 70%, 55%.
I think this
is reasonable.
Here are the results:
