Instructions for entering grades
1. Grade Sheets
You are to create a "grade sheet" for each
assignment for which the students are graded. This is very
easy.
Each grade sheet has a name, such as lab1,
and consists of a list of the students and the grade the
student is given on that assignment.
To start a new grade sheet, choose Create a new grade
sheet from the main menu and then choose [Next>] at the
bottom of the menu page.
The web-based program will already know the base part of
the name. You will provide a short descriptive suffix to the
name for each assignment. For example, to make a grade sheet
named lab2 you would enter 2 in the
blank after the word lab. As another example,
to make a grade sheet named quiz2a you would enter
2a in the blank after the word quiz.
Spaces and slashes (either kind) are not allowed in the
names.
2. Filling out Grade Sheets
After creating a new grade sheet as described above, you
can check the button labelled Modify and/or Submit
for the sheet you want to edit. Then click [Next>] to enter
grades into the sheet.
Read this carefully:
Only the following grades are acceptable:
- A number consisting of a string of 1 or more
digits optionally followed by a decimal point followed
by a string of 1 or more digits. Negative grades are
not allowed. Scientific notation is not allowed.
- If a student has an excused
absence on an assignment, click the checkbox between
the grade input field and his name. The assignment
will not be averaged into the student's grades.
- VERY IMPORTANT: If the student has
an unexcused absence, or otherwise did not do
the assignment, leave the grade input field blank.
Please understand this point: Do not assign a grade of
zero for missed work, instead leave the grade blank.
The student will still get a zero on the assignment, but an
indication that the assignment was missed will also be
present on his grade report.
3. Saving and Submitting Grade Sheets
At the bottom of the Edit Grade Sheet form are
the following buttons:
- Reset This Form
- This restores the form to the state it had when
you entered it. Be careful, because your changes are
discarded when this is chosen.
- Clear All Grades
- This clears all the grades. You will
be asked to confirm this choice.
- Delete This Sheet
- This permanently removes the grade sheet. Be very
careful, since it cannot be restored. You will be
asked to confirm this choice. You cannot delete a
grade sheet after it has been submitted.
- Re-Name This Sheet
- This allows you to change the name of a grade
sheet. This is useful if you make an error in the
name of a grade sheet when you create it. You cannot
re-name a grade sheet after it has been submitted.
- Save This Sheet
- This choice saves the grade sheet and returns you
to the main menu. You can go back and continue editing
the grade sheet later. You will not be allowed to save
a grade sheet if any of the grades are not allowable
as described above.
- Submit This Sheet
- After you have finished entering all the grades,
you may Submit the grade sheet. This sends
the grade sheet to the
instructor for inclusion in a student's grades.
If you find that you want to change a grade after the
sheet has been submitted, you may do so. You will
not be allowed to submit a grade sheet if any of the
grades are not entered, or if any are not allowable
as described above.
4. Security.
You are responsible for all information entered under
your name and password. Do not allow anyone else to discover
your name and password for this software. Do not configure
your browser to save your password, and always close and
completely shut down your browser after you finish entering
grades. If you find that someone else has been using your
password, please report it immediately by sending mail to the instructor immediately.
